Yes you can unlock it
id recommend jumping up to a new firmware like 3.1.3 tho

can teach me how please? everytime i plus it in itunes, its asking to upgrade to 4.2.1

If its a 3g you can upgrade to 3.1.3 do you need an unlock? Or are you just wanting a jailbreak

Download the 3.1.3 firmware for your device, then hold shift and click restore in itunes. A window will come up where you can choose th 3.1.3 firmware you downloaded. Then you can use jailbreakme.com or redsnow 0.9.4 to jailbreak. Guides at top of page.
