Your best bet is probably to download the 3.1.3 firmware hold alt on a mac or shift on a pc and hit restore. That will get it on a good working and still compatible firmware with cydia.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if it will update your baseband to what came with 3.1.3 or if it will use the latest 5.15.04 hold off here for a bit until someone else can chime in about the best way to keep you at a unlockable baseband.Last edited by Captinsmooth; 01-04-2011 at 10:22 AM.

^ You got it right, Download the 3.1.3 firmware, shift/alt restore to that in itunes. It will update your baseband to 5.12.01 which can be unlocked. Use redsnow 0.9.4 or jailbreakme.com to jailbreak then install ultrasnow from cydia to unlock.

On a 3G you will have to download the 3.1.3 firmware yourself then hold down shift or option (depending if you are on mac or pc) then click restore. A window will pop up where you can pick the 3.1.3 firmware,
