I've done some research and "baseband" keeps popping up in the results. Just another quick question, is 3.1.3 the version i should be using? And is 05.14.02 the correct version to be using.
You would need to be on 4.1 or 4.2.1 to do the baseband update anyway. I would suggest 4.2.1 since it runs a little better on a 3G than 4.1. Just restore to 4.2.1, then use redsnow 0.9.6b6 (browse for a regular 4.2.1 firmware) and install cydia and do the baseband update.
Are there any disadvantages to upgrading to 4.2.1 - Slowness? Compatibility issues? Is this the firmware that the iPhone 4 uses? How would i go about restoring to 4.2.1 (This is my first time doing anything like this). Thanks.
It is a little slower than 3.1.3, some things in cydia may not have been updated for 4.2.1 yet also but a lot of stuff has. For restoring to 4.2.1 you can either download the 4.2.1 file yourself and shift restore to it or get itunes to download it for you.
I've found 4.1 to run better (speed wise) than 4.2. I haven't really messed with 4.2 much but 4.1 is the 4.x series that I've had the least problems with. I've done a bunch of 3G phones for people and 4.1 the most stable for me. Also don't install native multitasking there's a reason apple left it out. Causes nothing but problems and low memory issues with 3G. Just my opinion tho it's your phone do what u want to it.
Wow really? 4.1 runs just as fast if not faster than 3.1.x for me once setup the way i like my phone setup. 4.x seems to have better memory management than 3.x atleast for me. I'd go 3.1.2 before 3.1.3 idk why just preference I guess.
I Agree there. I've got my personal i4 and a work 3G and it's painful going back and forth. Work won't let me upgrade even if I buy it which is stupid.
Yeah it's painful but I always carry both. They explained why but I wasn't listening. I stopped hearing them after the word no. I've got 2 spare i4 on 4.0 nib that I was gonna use for work but they shot that down. I'm waiting for the right time and I'm selling bothof them. Then when the lte version cones out I'll buy a coupe of them too.
Doesnt make any sense to me. A i4 can do everything a 3G can do but better. I see no real reason why they would have that stance, especially since you are buying the phone yourself.
