Default iPhone 3gs firmware 6.15 problem... Please Help!!!

Pliz help me.... got a new iphone 3gs 8gb and made some guys at a store unlock it.They used Redsnow to unlock it to 4.1 with the ipad baseband 6.15.THEY DID NOT BACKUP SHSH BLOBS OR PRESERVE THE BASEBAND.There were some problems like shutting itself off randomly which could not be turned on except by pressing the home and power button simultaneously (Reboot).

I accidentaly selected the erase all content and settings and it got stuck at the apple logo recovery loop.... I panicked n tried to update it to official ios 4.2 through itunes (big mistake) and was not possible to complete due to the ipad baseband. Now when I press the power button it only shows the connect to itunes logo.I'm a noob to the iphone hacking scene so pliz can you give me some suggestions? What can be done? Is it bricked?....

Not really a brick yet, use redsnow to put you into dfu mode and restore to custom fw of 4.2.1 ( In your PM box)

@iYeow & iFlawless : Thank you so much guys ur solutions worked... This is what I did.
1.Use Redsnow and select original 4.2.1 firmware.
    2.Enter DFU mode.
3.Open iTunes and restore using the CFW 4.2.1.
and then my phone was working again and showed the emergency call screen. Does this mean I have an old bootrom?
However I did not jailbreak or unlock it again and now it's iOS 4.2.1 with baseband 6.15.
I was thinking of jailbreaking it after a while since my phone started working again.
But I am facing the initial problem again i.e. phone randomly shutting off and not being able to turn it on except with reboot (holding power and home button). The shutting off is random but usually happens when it's in sleep or standby mode. I haven't jailbroken it. It's just the custom 4.2.1 with ipad baseband 6.15 and i put the original sim at&t. Pliz help me guys. My iphone 3gs was bought from the US during november and am using here in India. I recieved my iphone only last week. No use of warranty since it has the ipad baseband. Am really worried. Is the shutting off a hardware issue?

@willyfr2525 : I think ur iphone must be factory unlocked and you still have the official baseband.

Try this for 4.2.1. If iTunes will say that wrong ipsw, it means you have 4.1. Then there is another solution with snowbreeze.

    1. Open Redsnow redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5
    2. Select Original 3GS Firmware iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore
    3. Message Box Will Pop up so Click YES
    4. Select Only This Option ( Just Enter Pwned DFU Mode Right Now )
    5. Dowload custom firmware. I guess the guy gave you the link. if you didnt get it, PM me for link. Save it on Desktop.
    6. Open iTunes and while holding shift button press Restore, Browse to Desktop and Select Custom Firmware from Desktop and Flash with iTunes.
    7. After iTunes says it has been restored, Open Redsnow redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5 Again.
    8. Repeat steps 2 and 3
    9. Check only Cydia and it will Jailbreak it.
    10. Since its 4.2.1 you will have to run Redsnow again and check only "Boot tethered now".
    11. If you need to unlock it, go to Cydia and download ultrasnow.

Let me know it it worked

Thank you iFlawless and iYeow very much. It works like charm.

When I restore my iphone to custom firmware 4.2.1, I want to jailbreak it. However, I cannot instal cydia with redsn0w 0.9.6b6. I did everything, but when my phone 3gs turn on, it has a cydia icon but i cannot run it. It is only a white icon with cydia word under it.

Could you guys help me install cydia? Thank you very much.

@av14 : I have sent u the link for custom 4.2.1 in your inbox...

@Willyfr2525 and Greenk12 : I think the 4.2.1 jailbreak is still very unstable... you have to be careful while trying to use cydia, jailbroken apps etc... i think a better jailbreak will come out...
@iYeow & iFlawless : pliz reply to post #6... am really worried.. eagerly waiting for your replies...

@iFlawless : Dude this random going off was happening previously i.e. when I was on iOS 4.1 jailbroken n unlocked using redsnow on baseband 6.15. The jailbreak was done by the guys at the store. Back then I did'nt know anything about iphone hacking. When it goes off I was'nt able to turn it on except with reboot. Then I asked the guy at the store and he told me it must only be a software bug and said that he resetted the settings and it will be okay. But it was still happening so i accidently messed it pretty bad by selecting the erase all data. Had to restore it to custom iOS 4.2.1 because I unknowingly tried to restore it using official iTunes (baseband prevented restoring of course). Now my iPhone is working properly like a normal iOS 4.2.1 but with baseband 6.15. The shutting off occurs without being jailbroken so u think that jailbreaking will fix it? Lemme try it anyways and I'll post the results.

Now with your bootable iphone, plug it in and run tiny umbrella. Click save shsh. Let me know what shsh you have from TU.
The rebooting and shutting down is not normal. Did you have this problem before ?
You can actually do the same process of restore again and see if it fixes your rebooting problem.

Do everything as it was said in the first post. If it's software problem, it will fix it.

Have you rebooted your iphone after installing? Might help. Also, simply maybe you are not connected to wi-fi and thats why you cant run it.
If doesnt help, run redsnow again. Installing cydia only.

Let me know how it worked
Thank you very much. Finally, I installed cydia. I think that jailbreaking ios 4.2.1 is still not stable. So, I wanna go down to ios 4.1. Because, when I do jailbreak on ios 4.1 and unlock on 3 iphone 3gs . Everything is very smooth and work very well.

However, tinyumbrella did not save my shsh for 4.1 on this iphone 3GS. Could I still go down to ios 4.1?

This is wonderful having a factory unlocked iphone. Now you have to find out if you have the oldbootrom which will get you untethered jailbreak.
You can follow this guide to see if you have the new or old bootrom

@iYeow : Yes I had the same problem when i was on 4.1 jailbroken using redsnow.... after i restored to cfw 4.2 am still having the same problem.... should i try restoring it again now with cfw 4.2? was too busy doing class activities these past two days and had no time... will do it now at once... i sent tinyumbrella's saved shsh of my phone to your inbox...

One thing I also noticed is that the battery is draining very fast... however the shut off occurs anytime whether it's 100 percent or 90 percent etc... even if i turn off the phone willingly then after about 10 mins... i cannot turn it on again except with hard reboot... if i leave the phone in standby for about 2 hours it will certainly go off.... however it never goes off while using it... this is so annoying.. my phone is barely two weeks old and i can't complain to apple because of the ipad baseband... the modders at the store should have informed me about the baseband before installing it....

    Update :

Restoring with cfw 4.2.1 does not solve the random shutoff issue.... have even jailbroken it with redsnow. I have restored it 2 times but the problem still persists... Have a bad feeling that this is related to hardware . Please help!!!

You have a hardware issue. Just try your luck at the apple store, tell them that your iphone keeps shutting down. Usually Apple is pretty good in terms of replacing your iphone especially it is only 2 weeks old.
