How to get Push notifications to work on iOS 4.2.1 (JB) (06.15.00)
I have a 3GS 16GB (old bootroom) and I recently updated to iOS 4.2.1 and unlocked to baseband 06.15.00. I never get Push notifications from any of my Apps. Ever since I unlocked my phone i don't get Push notifications anymore (even when I was running iOS 3.1) Please somebody help me out or point me to a thread that can fix this problem. Thanks

What carrier are you with ? I think there is a tweak to fix push notification. It is called Push fix.

Easy way to figure out if your push notifications are working or not is by downloading "iPush" from the Apple store.
Before I knew how to fix Push notifications, in 3.1.2 there was a free push fix solution called "Push Doctor" which worked tremendously well unlike "Push Fix" which was the first solution for fixing Push notifications but became unsupported after 3.1.3, the author just went rampant with charging for it but later on abandoned it.(Bought it for two of my iPhones and never got help when I asked in their forums on when it would work for iOS 4.0+)
The repo for Push Doctor is:
ttp://cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/
The other, and easiest solution (if you have it available) is by keeping your AT&T SIM card inside, doesn't matter if its an old one or not. When the iphone is jailbroken, and iTunes sends the notification to the phone, it will send a legitimate push ticket. Then you can download ultrasn0w, and go ahead and put in your actual sim card inside, and reboot your iphone.
Hope that helps!iPhone 32GB 3GS - iOS 4.2.1 - BB: 5.11.07

Did you use hactivation, that could be a problem. What RaiV3R is saying , use a legit sim to trigger your iphone from Emergency to home screen is the best way to resolve this issue.

IDK if Push doctor will work for iOS 4.2.1?? Also I screwed up JB awhile back going from 4.0 to 4.1 and updated my baseband. So for 2 months I was forced to use a ATT prepaid sim card during that time. So when I reunlocked my phone under 06.15.00 I had the ATT sim card at the time.
So are you suggesting I JB and Unlock my iphone with an ATT sim card in throughout the process? Can you please verify, thanksLast edited by ncaa76; 12-08-2010 at 11:06 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Sorry I missed the 4.2.1 part, and good point, that's what I'm not sure about. I haven't used Push Doctor since I've gone to iOS 4.0 + since I rather just activate with my AT&T SIM, but I can verify it does work on iOS 4.0 since I used it on a friends phone once. Worst case scenario, if it doesn't work, you can just uninstall it.
However, now that I recall. Isn't SAM supposed to do also that? Now I'm not sure about SAM since I've never used it but this one of the updates Dev-Team wrote on there page a few days back.
Give that a shot.Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers. His tool, “Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)” tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. This means you get the full benefit of push applications, and your battery life increases substantially. If you’d like to try it out, check out Subscriber Artificial Module
Edit:
Yes, that's the easiest way, at least in my opinion it is. What you do is you put your ATT sim card inside, jailbreak, let iTunes pull a push ticket out for your phone. After that is done, go to Cydia, install ultrasn0w, put in your other carrier SIM card. Reboot, and once it's back in the lockscreen it should say "iPhone Activated". Thats it.Last edited by RaiV3R; 12-08-2010 at 11:13 PM.

SAM is supposed to fix the lockdown patch of Redsn0w that drains battery, not this issue.

Yup SAM worked for me. More battery and I get all my push notices from all apps. It IS TO ALSO RESTORE THE PUSH SERVERS TO FUNCTION IN THE SAME WAY AS IF YOU HAD AT&T SERVICE...

Can I do this instead of re JBing my phone?Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers. Yeah it's working flawlessly for me now. Mine is Rogers Canada set and I'm using Malaysian & Indonesian carrier. Just install sam pref, update it if u already installed em. Do necessary setting on sam pref.
Install push doctor even though it says "running out certificate". Wait for 1 minute till 3 hours. And viola it will work.
Fyi, i tried this method 2 times.

using SAM Pref
1. open iREB
2. install iOS 4.2.1 custom firmware
3. hackactivate using redsnow 0.9.6 b6
....
(i assume u know how to jailbreak and unlock using redsn0w)
and this is my own steps *as i remembered*:
4. add repo.bingner.com, install SAM pref (acutil, pushutil, etc will be install automatically)
5. go to setting, SAM, method=by country and carrier
6. country=canada, carrier=rogers
7. deactivate iphone, connect to itunes, doesn't work
8. revert lockdown, clear push session, connect to itunes, doesn't work
9. install push doctor (www.cmdshft.ipwn.me\apt), it says "running out certificate", error blablabla, so i reinstall so many times
10. reinstall SAM 2 or 3 times
11. only found that my itunes directly connect to saurik server not apple server

(windows\system32\driver\etc\hosts file), so i remove the saurik IP.
12. when i deactivate through SAM then connect to itunes finally it says "IPHONE ACTIVATED"
13. but.. push notification still didn't work
14. feeling frustrated, so i slept... and found out that push finally working flawlessly after 3 hours sleeping

hope my steps don't confuse u
actually, 1st time it worked flawlessly after i upgrade my SAM pref through cydia, but then i reinstall my phone again so then i came to this process again
