I've been trying to unlock my iPhone 3G since the release of the latest ultrasn0w and redsn0w. Here's what I get currently:
iPhone 3G
BB 6.15
iOS 4.1
PC OS Windows 7
Jailbreak: Redsn0w
Unlock: Ultrasn0w
So when I boot the phone up, I get the "Waiting for activation" message. I used Redsn0w with an inactive AT&T SIM (since I don't have AT&T the SIM came with the phone). I swipe to get to the home screen and I get no service in the top corner. Turned off the 3G so it doesn't attempt to connect to the T Mobile 3G network (I've read it doesn't work so why bother?). Insert T Mobile SIM still get No Service.
So what am I doing wrong? Without an AT&T SIM how do I get rid of that activation message and how do I get T Mobile working on this thing?
Minor update, using my tracphone SIM I got 2 VM notifications (I DO have VMs waiting on my tracphone) but yet still get no service (can't get a call out before it loses service).

Try restoring original firmware on iTunes then Jailbreak/Unlock again. Or maybe you need to have your T-Mobile sim in while you Jailbreak/Unlock. I'm pretty sure there's a list that says which one's need the carrier sim and which one's don't for activation. Here I believe.
Steve, I believe those files are a little behind. Since I've definitely managed to jailbreak (the one PDF says 3G with 4.1 iOS is unbreakable and not unlockable). So that doesn't quite help me here.
When using an inactive ATT sim the activation process is normally two stage. I normally restore with the inactive ATT sim in the phone and that allows you to get to the point where you can access the phone and see the ICONS play music etc.
The second part is after the jailbreak and unlock I then reboot the phone and then put the T-Mobile SIM in and the second part of the activation occurs which gets rid of that screen you are seeing and gives signal bars etc.
When using an ACTIVE ATT sim both stages occur at the same time.
That's the problem. It doesn't seem to be switching over to the T Mobile SIM. It's not seeing the address book on the SIM card or anything other than the phone number information.
Ok update. Still no luck. Started from scratch again. Used SAM following the directions to the letter. Now at that point carrier said AT&T 8.0 no matter what sim was in the iPhone. As soon as I installed ultrasn0w, it gave me carrier 8.0 for the carrier. NO sim card worked in the phone at that point. Uninstalled ultrasn0w and I still get carrier 8.0 but I at least show signal with he deactivated AT&T sim card.
Still not sure what is going on here but I'm going to figure it out eventually. Hopefully someone can help before I lose my ever lovin mind trying.
