I can't restore my Iphone4 with itunes!!!
I have a jailbreak-ed Iphone 4 and I traveled to Europe where I've used it with an Orange cell carrier.
Ever since I got back to the States and switched my SIM I get a "No Service" message wherever "AT&T" should be. I've called AT&T and they told me that my line is active and directed me to restore my phone trough Itunes.
Whenever I push the restore button on Itunes it only gives me the option to restore AND update!
Is there any way to bypass the update and just restore the phone?
Thanks for your help.

Only if you have SHSH for the firmware you are on. Otherwise you will be forced to update.

The modem firmware is 01.59.00, but it was unlocked by a friend that is out of the country for a few months so I don't know anything about SHSH...
How can I get that?

Download tiny umbrella and press save SHSH with the phone connected to see what you can get: The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
What firmware are you on now btw?

That means if you try and restore or update then you will be forced to go to 4.2.1

There is a jailbreak but it is a tethered jailbreak. Also if you want to unlock you will not want to do this (at least not the regular way).

Well, there are 2 ways i know of to update and preserve your baseband so that you can still unlock. But both are unofficial ways and i havent tried them myself. So if you want to try itnis your choice.

What do I have to lose? Worse comes to worse I'll have to restore and update again... Right?

Well if you want to give it a go. Here is what you do:
Run tiny umbrella and start the TSS server. Make sure you get no errors when running tiny umbrella and that you run it as administrator
In itunes click on update, do not click restore, it has to be an update.
Let itunes do its thing you will get an error near the end of the update
Use tiny umbrella to exit recovery after you get the error
Activate the phone with official sim
If you get this far let me know then we can go from there

So you have your ATT sim in right? Not jailbroken or anything yet? What is your modem firmware when you go to settings-general-about?

That means you are right back where you started, you didnt do the update. iTunes must have given you that error at the beginning of the process. Not sure why you would get that error though.

I'll see what I can do and if it still not works I'll just have to update and wait for an updated jailbreaking soft.
Thanks for trying.
