Help with Unlocking
Hi all,
I am trying to unlock my iPhone running 4.1 with a baseband of 02.10.04 with no luck. Telstra has unlocked the phone free of charge and they tell me the only way to get it to work is to do a restore and the carrier settings will update then. Here is the problem. To do a restore will mean that i will lose 4.1 and all my jailbroken mods and switch over to 4.2 which i do not want to do. Is there a way I can apply the updated carrier settings without restoring? Or can I re-install 4.1 (my blobs are saved) through Cydia and keep all my current jailbroken mods and settings and apply the carrier settings update then.
My fear is I will have to update to 4.2 and lose many months of hard work creating themes and getting my phone set up how i like it.
Any and all help is appreciated.

You can use your 4.1 SHSH to restore to 4.1, that way you can keep the ability for a untethered jailbreak. Let itunes activate it once done. You will have to reinstall all your cydia apps though. You can use something like pkgbackup to backup your stuff though so you can restore them all easily after.

I think there is some misinformation here. If the phone is a Telstra phone then the corrier setting will not change. You need to put a different SIM in the phone and plug it into Itunes and you will get a pop up message in Itunes telling you it needs to check your carrier settings. Itunes will download the correct carrier settings for the phone assuming it is a valid iphone provider.
There is no need to do any restore.

I think nebo1ss may be right here. Try doing that first with the other sim and opening itunes. I do recall that once you get a official unlock done you dont necessarily have to restore.

Thanks neb1ss,
You are a legend and are right.
I put the Vodafone sim in and pluged it into iTunes and the screen went back to activation status, so i put my Telstra sim back in to activate it again then while still conected to itunes powered down and replaced the sim back to Vodafone and powered it back up and it went straight to full strength with Vodafone. I disconected from iTunes and powered down and back up again (just to make sure) and still unlocked. It is still jailbroken.
Thanks for all the help.
regards Rustynut
