To get to 4.2.1 and still unlock you need to preserve your baseband by restoring to a custom 4.2.1 made with pwnage tool. Do you have a Mac?

You would still need a custom 4.1 made with pwnage tool.
You can use the new method of updating your baseband to the iPad one but be aware there may not be any coming back from that. Since you already have a unlockable baseband it would be best to try and preserve that.

You have an unlockable baseband do not upgrade to the ipad baseband. That is a solution of last resort for those that do not have an unlockable baseband. Either use a custom firmware to go to 4.1 or wait for new tools that will take you to custom 4.2.1 without the complexity of the present process.

iclarified has tutorials but they do not provide the custom firmware, you have to make (or find) that yourself.
