For those of you using T-Mobile with the Iphone, is the user experience good enough to make all the hassle involved with unlocking and staying unlocked worth it? I just got a used 3GS and am jailbroken and unlocked on the 6.15.00 baseband. I'm having the battery drain problem, I'm tethered and I may not be able to use GPS (I haven't checked). I know that these problems will be solved eventually by the dev team, but only until Apple comes out with a new BB and firmware to break it all again.
So for those of you who have been using your Iphone unlocked on T-Mo for a while now, is it THAT good?
It's just way cheaper in my case so I stay on t-mobile. It hasn't been a problem to just NOT update my firmware for long periods. There are limited windows of opportunity to update so as long as you are fine waiting, you'll never know the difference. If you are hungry for the latest IOS each time it comes out, stay on AT&T.
I'm also not APP Crazy, I use my phone a lot with email and web browsing and Maps, after that, I only use a handful of apps and they haven't changed enough to cause me any problems. On rare occasion I'll get a message that I can't install some app because I haven't updated to a new enough version of IOS but that is very rare.
roll back to 4.1 and you won't have to be tethered. Yes it's worth it. I have a 3GS also. Your on a cheaper phone plan, cheaper UNLIMITED internet ($10), and you get the freedom to do what ever you want with YOUR iphone.
The internet might be on the Edge network, but its fast enough for me.
I have iphone 3Gs 5.12.xx it's jailbroken but not unlocked. I am new at this unlock process. I have been waiting to see if some of the problems are resolved before I unlock. However, I think today will be the day I unlock. Just curious... did you resolve your battery drain? Did you have to use the original sim card or was you able to start off with your Tmobile sim? Did you follow the steps on Redmonpie to unlock? Thanks in advance for your help.
If you've got a battery drain problem, then try the new SAM activation method (item 1 on news page today!).
IPhone is good, if I could go back and just buy a factory unlocked one would I?? Maybe, but I quite enjoy the thrill of jailbreaking and the sneaky feeling of getting one over on apple. Plus it's a great community and the jailbroken apps can be awesome....
