I got an iphone 3g jailbreaked by red snow 0.94 on version 3.1.3. The previous version was 4.2, so the baseband is on 5.14.02, and I cannot unlock the phone. How do I unlock the phone?
The new redsn0w will have to update the baseband to 6.15 first. So you'd have to go back up to 4.2.1, jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and use redsn0w's update baseband option. Then you can unlock with ultrasn0w. You can downgrade fw back to 3.1.x if you'd like after. Just a word of warning, the baseband update is permanent and if ever you need to take it to Apple, they will know and refuse service as that action voids the warranty (if you've still got one).
You can check with f0recast from ih8sn0w to see if your device has bootloader 5.8. You could instead downgrade the baseband to use ultrasn0w with Fuzzyband from Cydia. If not, then unlocking via the baseband upgrade is the only option right now.
