Default HELP! Can't unlock iphone 3g upgraded from unlocked 3.0 fresh 4.0

Hey guys i've tried everything i can't unlock my 3g. It now has a fresh 4.0.1 install. I've tried most methods but i keep getting errors restoring the custom ipsw. Error 1600 can not be avoided. Mac and pc the same. I've also tried ireb but the screen goes green and says good, i immediately try to restore firmware and still error codes. I'm beat any ideas?

redsn0w keeps telling me unrecognized ipsw which makes no sense at all

Does the firmware you are pointing to redsnow have a white puzzle cube icon with a music note on it?

turned out to be due to the fact that i was using an older version of redsnow...51b instead of 55. Only itunes 9.2 would work for me

go lakers by the way lol
