As far as I'm aware every UK carrier will provide an unlock for the iPhone EXCEPT vodafone.

Well, i found this...thoughts?
Google Translate
It's a chinese site.
If i understand correctly, get a prepaid o2 sim loaded with 15 pounds., contact o2, call UK and have a chat with a random chap so you get charged for the call, then they send you the unlock code and you can unlock your o2 phone??
Sound right?
Ah, thanks, but I can't register. I'm in the us and use AT&T as a carrier here.
Ita hard enough to buy a prepaid u2 sim here as well

Ok so I woke up this morning from a message from o2 saying...
O2 have submitted your unlock request for iPhone IMEI ************* to Apple. Apple should unlock the device via iTunes within the next two weeks. O2.
So I was like sweet .. Then couple then about hour later get this messesge...
Apple have confirmed the iPhone IMEI ************** is set to unlock. To complete the unlock, connect the device to iTunes with a SIM never used in the iPhone.
That was **** quick ha so gonna buy a micro sim today from another carrier and connect to iTunes then boom I'm unlocked is it jus me or was that wayyy to easy ha

Nice, I love when someone says it can take a long time to do something and it happens right away.

Call me a sceptic, but I don't buy that. o2 in the Uk and Ireland will only unlock a phone once it's finished it's contract term. And you don't get two emails, one being from Apple, you just get the one from o2.
There is no way an o2 mod on a forum can unlock your phone off his/her own back.

This site is definitely a Scam. They use standard Dev team tools that are provided for free if there is no tool yet they will still take you money and keep promising a solution.
If you have an O2 phone go to O2 for unlock. Do not provide your imei to a third party to help you interface with O2 you can do this directly no need for third party.
While there is a possibility the person asking for your IMEI might be genuine he might also want your imei to clone it.

Nice. I started my o2 official unlock process today as well.
I am in the US, and somehow got my hands on a UK iphone linked to o2.
So i purchased an o2 pay as you go SIM card for a few bucks on ebay.
It comes empty, so i found this site where you can load it up using paypal (which is good for me cuz i am in US)
Top Up At Top Ups Direct
According to o2, the charge is 15 pounds, and you need to make a few calls on the UK sim, so i'll put 20 pounds on it (about $30 USD)
So, with at least 15 pounds on the sim, and after a few calls, leave the sim in and fill out this form
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?...king&case=Hand
Then you just wait til you get a confirmation text and you'll be on the path to an official unlock!
The only hiccup is if the IMEI is blocked. I don't know the history of this phone. It's been passed to a few people here in the US in a hactivated state on 3.1.3. But since it's from the UK..no idea how it got here. Could be a lost phone, or someone's 4G upgrade leftover? I'll find out soon enough

That is totally wrong. O2-Uk unlocked my 3GS after about 3-4 months into my contract. WEhy would they need the full term to have passed? You're still locked into the contract and have to pay it. Source: Unlock your O2 iPhone for free from today | Crave | CNET UK
I agree. The only way I know of officially unlocking an O2 iPhone is to fill in this form: https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?...king&case=HandThere is no way an o2 mod on a forum can unlock your phone off his/her own back.If I helped please head on over and smash the Thanks button.

You will loose jailbreak if you restore to 4.2.1 You can re-jailbreak using Redsn0w but its on tethered. I'd stay at 4.1 if I were you.
If I helped please head on over and smash the Thanks button.
