Active iPhone 3GS old bootrom Q

Hi to all.

Ok i have an iPhone 3GS old bootrom in 4.1 BB 05.13 unlock.

1: Q: I use to have an iPhone 3GS ( I don't have it any more ) but still have the sim card ( With no service ). ( So i got a new iPhone 3GS old bootrom ) Can i active the new iPhone 3GS with my old iPhone 3GS sim card ?

2: Q: i wanna to update to the new version 4.2.1 what is the bes way to update and save my present BB ?

You can only trigger it into Homescreen and then once unlock, you can activate it with a sim that has service

The baseband way to preserve your baseband is to restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 created from Pwnage tools
