Changing iPhone 4 APN

Hi. My iPhone 4 is Jailbroken on 2.1. It is officially unlocked.

I am trying to change the APN settings (or rather, make sure I can change the APN for when I go away on Sunday), however I am unable to do so.

I am with Optus Australia, currently, if that matters.

The problem is that when I go to settings>general>network, there is no Cellular Data option (only an on/off switch).

I have tried to install APN Editing from Cydia, but I always get an error when installing it of a "half-installed" package. I even tried downloading it and putting the deb in the Cydia AutoInstall folder, but the same result occurred.

I tried adding a line to the carrier.plist file, but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions? It is kind of urgent as I need it before Sunday

Just called Apple tech support about this. They told me that on iPhone 4s the APN changes automatically by grabbing it from the sim card...

Is he right? If so, why haven't they implemented this in any other model of iPhone. hmmm
