Stuck in Activation screen, Need help

A couple of days ago i updated my iphone to the newest firmware ( i believe 4.2?) because Itunes would bring up an annoying message every time i synced the iphone. I did so, but afterwards the phone would no longer auto sync, and i couldn't add songs. So i clicked on the restore to original firmware button in itunes and the phone reset. The problem is that i do not have the original sim card, or access to any other card. I cannot get out of the emergency call only screen, and don't know how to activate my phone. I don't know anything about iphone modding. The only info i have is that the phone was never jailbroken before, and that it is an iphone 3gs model a1303. I'm not sure what firmware it is at currently, but i last restored it to the factory setting/firmware. Any help on how i can activate without sim?

you can jailbreak using the newest redsn0w and firmware 4.2.1 and baseabnd 6.15 from an ipad which you can download from here Dev-Team Blog . Which will hacktivate your phone which will now give you the emergency screen.

I read one of the sticky threads and downloaded the forecast app, and it says that i Have firmware 4.2.1 with baseband 05.15.04. I'm really new to this jailbreaking thing and am not too sure what I'm doing. Is there anyway to just activate without jailbreaking? I read that i need need to upgrade to baseband 6.15, and can only perform a tethered jailbreak If i do so. Thanks for any help.

If you have a carrier other than att (guessing your from the us) your going to have to jailbreak to unlock the phone and by updating to baseband 6.15 i think is going to be your only way .

Oh alright. I'll have to do some research as to how I can upgrade without messing up my phone. Thanks for all the help. Hopefully, I Don't brick it.

Yea thanks. I found a guide to do everything. I'm downloading the stock firmware 4.21 right now... my dorm's internet is terrible this year so it's taking a while.

Hm I used Redsnow 0.9.6b5 and i checked the update to 6.15 baseband, but It did nothing for me because I'm still stuck on the emergency calls screen even after jealbreak..

Have you tried another sim card?

Yes, i tried my t-mobile sim but no luck.. I did everything in the redsnow properly... Idk what happened.. I'm still in the emergency screen, but now when i try to connect it to itunes it says an unknown error occured

Ok that's not right when u use redsn0w u shouldn't have to plug it or anything to get it to work.
