    Default Please help....3GS w/ 5.14.02

I'm so very lost, but if anyone can help please do. Ok I have a 3gs w/5.14.02, now can I update through itunes to the 4.2 firmware THEN unlock with redsn0w?? I was figuring it would just make sense to update my firmware before unlocking....Thank you to whomever takes the time out to help!!Sorry if I could've found this out somewhere in the forum

Youd update to 4.2.1 and use Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for a tethered jb. It also allows you to update your baseband to 6.15 to unlock. This bb upgrade is required to use the new ultrasn0w. You could also you Pwangetool if you have a Mac or know someone who has the custom 4.2.1 fw made with the baseband update so you can shift/option+restore to it.

You are at 4.1 right. Run redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and browse to stock 4.1 ipsw.
If your iphone is not jailbroken, check the box : Install Cydia, ipad baseband.
If it is already jailbroken, just check the box : ipad baseband.
Once finished, you can install Ultrasn0w to unlock.

    Note:
Once you have updated your BB to ipad BB, all future updates or restore will be custom firmware and no more stock firmware restore on this iphone.

Oh that's not a problem, just as long as my phone will work, LOL.

Sorry just 2 more questions please, then I'll leave you alone.....when you update your firmware, do you have to lose all of your information in the phone in order to do that or does this happen only when you do a restore?? & also, will I ever be able to change my baseband 1day u think?? & thank you very much again!

You'll lose all your stuff with a restore or update. But if you back them up properly, you'll be able to regain them.

You will be able to change your baseband only through upgrades and not through downgrades or regular restores. So if Apple releases a new fw and baseband, your device can upgrade the baseband to the new one.
