Battery drain after Ultrasn0w on updated baseband
Anyone thinking it may be ultrasn0w as the culprit of battery drain since updating your baseband and unlocking read this from Sherif Hashim on the dev team blog:
good day fellow jailbreakers & unlockers
i hope those of u with 3g/3gs are enjoying their updated unlocked devices, all props to @MuscleNerd & co. for making this possible
, hopefully the iphone 4 on 2.10.04 and 3.10.01 follows within a good time table.
on a very important side note, before anyone starts to complain about battery drainage issues after installing the new ultrasn0w on the 6.15.00 updated BB, the culprit here is not ultrasn0w, it's the hacktivation process (activating the phone by pwnage tool or redsn0w rather than using an official carrier sim to do so) that u mostly did while jailbreaking.
The 4.1 and 4.2.1 ipsws unlike their old ancestors, seem to keep looking for valid push certificates all the time, either thru your wifi, or thru your cellular data network (which u only have after installing ultrasn0w and hence u accuse it) , this can be seen clearly if u have a cellular working data plan for 3g or edge and u watched the settings > general > usage > cellular network data (sent & received are continuously increasing even without using any internet traffics on the phone) , this will also render the phone going hot even in stand by mode and also very rapid battery drainage occurs plus consuming ur data if you were not on an unlimited plan.
so to resolve this, u either:
A) try to activate the phone using the official sim if u have it (even if the sim itself is old and not working) , or borrow it from a friend if it's possible, by any means, try to have an access to one and use it
B) if A is not feasible, u can install SBsettings from featured cydia packages and turn wifi and data off when u r not using it (shuts down both 3g and edge) , till C is done
C) there is a very nice module being worked on by a trusted jailbreak app dev, namely @sbingner , which ll resolve that issue for those having it, the details of which shouldn't be disclosed until he finishes his awesome work, till then, either use A or B to resolve the issue if it exists for you

I was getting the battery drain. I went to email settings and changed it from "PUSH" to "FETCH" every 15 minutes. And it works fine. I figure PUSH is the phone keeping constant connection refreshing your email until something somes up. FETCH will just refresh every 15 minutes to just check anything. I could be wrong but i know my battery doesnt drain as fast anymore though

Question about option 1:
All you need is ANY official SIM card? What if you've already unlocked with the 06.15 BB - is it possible to restore the phone to it's locked state?

No. The 6.15 update (or any BB update) can never go lower. Higher version is ok.
Have you tried pitting in an official SIM and loading iTunes, maybe doing a sync? Since it's still waisting time trying to formally activate, it might catch it.
As long as you have SHSH blobs, you can reload any custom firmware, then use Redsn0w to jb/install Cydia, uncheck activate. It might take a 'kick' or two, or an earlier version redsnow depending upon the firmware you try.
The key about 6.15 (or any unlock BB solution) is a custom firmware is required.Last edited by Mes; 11-30-2010 at 06:05 AM.

You can still restore to 4.1. You will get a 1015 error, just use tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery, then you can activate with a official sim if you have one. This method will not work for restoring to 4.2.1 though because of the new baseband check. A custom restore is needed to do that.

fwiw I did notice I lost 10% in 1hr w/o phone,3G,data, just wifi reading email and some web pages. Was already activated on AT&T. Used sbs to turn off all but wifi, no better. Finally used suggestion to turn off push. Over 1.5 hrs now and dropped only 4%

What if we turn push off? And i got an iPhone 4 of eBay and luckily it was activated through itunes and restored when i bought it. Didn't have cydia though so most likely actolivated with a sim. I then jailbroke it so i guess im safe since that would be fix A. Am i right?

If I downgrade to 4.1 would I still have this problem? I changed my email settings to push, but my data is still climbing when I check my statistics.

No. The issue is with hactivation instead of activation.
