here we go unlock iphone 3gs (4.1-4.2) bb 5.14.02 >>> bb 6.15.00
1) Download the newest redsn0w http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev...edirects=0&d=1 [At the moment, this is a beta version, but it works]
2) Download your CURRENT firmware (which should be around 4.1-4.2.1):
if your fw is 4.1 download 4.1 if you are 4.2 take 4.2
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
3) Browse redsn0w to your firmware you just downloaded.
4) Follow the instructions on redsn0w
5) Check “Install Cydia” and “Install iPad Baseband”
6) Once finished with redsn0w, open Cydia, search for ultrasn0w
7) Install it with your SIM card inserted, then reboot!
remember isert your sim before unlock using ultrasnow
my guess
for me now i dont have any problem to my iphone after unlocking

Great instructions, worked well to JB and unloc my 3GS.
One problem, I can't receive calls or SMS. Can send and make calls though - just inbound appears to be a problem.
I've reset all setting, rebooted, turned notification off/on/off but nothing is working so far.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Just found a fix which worked perfectly. Courtesy of Bikingman.
Push Doctor was the final piece of the puzzle for my 3GS, now calls and texts are back to normal.
In case anyone else needs it - see below:

Spec:
3gs 16G
20th week product
US AT&T locked
Firmware 3.1.3 (Before upgrade)
Baseband 5.12.01 (Before upgrade)
Upgrade Track:
Itunes 10.1 upgrade to 4.1 (iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw)
Jailbroke using Limera1n RC4
Baseband stuck on 5.14.02
Upgraded baseband to 6.15 using Redsn0w b5
Installed Ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock
Could ONLY make outbound calls and SMS's
Installed PUSH DOCTOR 1.2
Problem solved. Can even turn on Notification without a single issue so far. Even MMS works perfectly !!

for me
for me step 5 take 5 minutes and when your iphone restart and finally open look on your base band now in general-about on your iphone if your bb is 6.15.00 you are done then close the redsnow and unplug then go to ultrasnow step for unlocking

always gets stuck on the "flashing baseband" screen... then restarts, jailbreak never completes

I have a 3GS running 4.1 on 5.14.02. In the instructions above it says to download the same software you have now...can I not upgrade to 4.2.1 when jailbreaking and unlocking?

no - I tried and it didn't do it... I pointed to the 4.2.1 ipsw file, but it picked up my 4.1 anyway - maybe got it from my 4.1 shsh blobs but I also have the 4.1 ipsw available in same folder with all my other ipsw's. plus from all I have read, no advantage to 4.2 on 3gs so why bother - after all I read here, the most direct route is best... if anyone knows of a compelling reason to move the 3gs to 4.2, I have not read it yet.

Do we know if it is indeed necessary to have the sim card in before running ultrasn0w? Thanks in advance!
