3gs won't start after BB 6.15
Hello,
I recently updated my 3gs to iOS 4.2.1 in itunes. After that I jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and updated the baseband to 6.15 with the intention of unlocking. This worked fine, my iphone loaded up with the new ios 4.2 and i checked under settings and sure enough baseband 6.15 was installed. so now i proceeded to add source repo666.ultrasn0w.com in cydia and install. Install went fine and then it asked me to reboot device. After hitting reboot device it would no longer start up. Just hangs on apple logo. I've tried restoring it in itunes and with redsn0w and I can no longer get it to start up properly. Anyone know how to fix this? Please! Running Windows Vista.

I'm guessing it's new bootrom and is a tethered jailbreak? I would go back to 4.1 and jailbreak/unlock there.

Try to do the just tethered boot now... You have to synch your power and home hold movements though it is kinda hard
update I just did it and tried to update cydia and it is same again stuck at the apple logo... I am starting to hate that thing :/Last edited by Azaghal; 11-29-2010 at 03:47 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I just unloked the device with the same steps...
- installed ultrasn0w.
- rebooted the device
- stuck at the apple logo
- used redsnow and iclarified's ipsw
-selected just boot tethered ...
- it started with the pineapple logo
- and works with my Turkcell sim card.
My phone is a 83943 iPhone 3Gs.

I have the exact same problem with the topic starter, i tried everything but my iphone still wont boot to springboard, it gets stuck on the apple boot logo, i tried with "boot tethered for now" with redsn0w 0.9.6b5 still to no success, i tried doing the same thing with 0.9.6b4 and all i got was my iphone stuck with the pineapple logo with the docking sound going crazy! anyone has any idea how to fix this? oh, and I also tried kicking the device out of recovery using TinyUmbrella, and even tried setting auto-boot to true using irecovery, still nothing seem to work, i need help desperately! I also tried to restore to stock 4.2.1 FW, tried to downgrade to 4.1, 4.0 but I only get the error 1015!

Yes, I am on the new bootrom and tethered jailbreak. I tried using redsnow to "just boot tethered" with no success. I have tried downgrading to ios 4.1 in hopes of jailbreaking and unlocking from there but I am not able to create my own custom firmware (i'm on a pc) so I've been downloading "custom" firmware from the internet and trying to restore it using itunes and using redsn0w. doesn't work either way. My iphone now just has the "connect to itunes" screen and so I'm not sure how I can restore it. I assume I need custom firmware that I can restore through itunes since I'm stuck on baseband 6.15 now but I'm not sure where I can find one I've been trying desperately..

i just found a way to restore back to ios 4.1!! Try jailbreaking your iphone again using redsn0w 0.9.6b4 just select the install cydia option and follow through with all the steps!! It'll take time for your iphone to refresh, but once done, you'll get your phone back on 4.1 with baseband 6.15 and you can unlock it with ultrasn0w 1.2! Also a reminder, point your ipsw selection to 4.2.1 but you will still have a phone 4.1 running when done!! Hope this helps!

Just to let you guys know you can restore your phone through itunes to 4.1 if you blobs are saved and you use tinyumbrella even if your bb is updated to 06.15 it will still update and work. once itunes does its thing itl give you and error just click ok and use tinyumbrella to kick it out of recovery and you got yourself a clean wipe non jailbroken with 06.15. So if you got crazy issues but your blobs are saved do that.

i used the original FW, i almost panicked when i thought my iphone was done for, i just tried everything that came to my mind!
Plus, i would like to add that tinyumbrella 4.14, the older version, can kick the device out of recovery but the problem is that you'll just start again with the boot logo loop, wherein you can not jailbreak or do anything to your iphone at this state. So what i did is put the phone in restore mode (hold the home button for a while and plug it in a cable without releasing the home button) this will yield the connect to itunes display on your phone, with this, just run the beta 4 of redsnow just like in my previous post.

So restore to 4.1 (Original Firmware) using itunes first and then jailbreak using redsn0w b4?
My iPhone hangs on "Installing Activation Bundles" when I try to jailbreak.
Thank you so much for your help! My iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked!

I need help pls, I have iphone 3gs 4.1 baseband 05.14.02 and because there was no unlock available I have upgraded it to 4.2 firmware, downloaded redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and ipad 1.3.2.2 ipsw, tried to jailbreak it and to change it`s baseband so I could unlock with unstrasnow 1.2. Now I`m stuck I cannot even restore it with Itunes it says error 1015?!
Any idea what should I do?
Thnx

Befi, I had the same problem. Once you have baseband 6.15 installed you should be able to restore to original iOS 4.1 firmware using iTunes. It may still give you an error once it finishes but that's ok. Jailbreak it with redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and point it to the 4.2.1 ipsw. Select install cydia and let it do it's thing. Once that's done if it won't boot use tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode and it should load up. From there I just unlocked with ultrasn0w 1.2 in cydia and that was it. Untethered jailbreak and unlocked.
