unlocking iphone that wont accept sim

i bought an iphone 3g att and i have been trying too actavate it it but it says unautherised sin card they said i will need to unlock it but i have been getting nowhere ?

also go to settings>general>about and see what it says beside modem firmware

i am new to iphone i know we updated the iphone to the 4.2 and my itunes is the newest last night

Well, bad news, unless you have a faulty AT&T sim card, the unlock of 4.2 is not possible now if you updated the baseband which it sounds like u did. Did you buy the phone online, u are with AT&T right?

i bought it on ebay and they said it had 4.1 but my guess they sinked it to retreve there info than?

even on 4.1 without a custom firmware the baseband is not unlockable but the unlock is supposed to release tomorrow (tweets say) so just check back

But I believe 4.1 and lower can be unlocked if the unlock is released Sunday, 4.2 might be a lot longer.

i am on att i have tried to contact seller to see if and what country it came from so i will wait and look for the new unlock thanks

Ok, good luck. For the future, never update the software version straight from iTunes, Apple doesn't want you to unlock or jailbreak. Check these forums for ways to not permanently lock your phone. I did the same thing as you about 3 months ago.

Thanks, I read that too, but I also read apple is doing a baseband check with 4.2.1, so will the unlock work? We'll see tomorrow I guess, if the rumors are correct.

yea the unlock will work if released.. the baseband check just means it checks to make sure its running 5.15 baseband with 4.2
