Friend of my is sitting on two iPhone's 4 with FW4.1 and baseband 02-10-04
Is there any way too unlock these phones? Upgrade then unlock?
Been reading alot of unlock for 4.3 but havnt manage to confirm this...

When you read this please understand that i'm a rookie and spent almost four days looking for information all over the net.

I've bought a refurbished Iphone which was jailbreaked and unlocked. I've been looking to see how i know my device is factory unlocked or if it is unlocked because of the jailbreak.
I've searched through my cydia packages and did not find any unlock tool.

It's an Iphone 3Gs bb: 05.14.02 IOS4.1.

I have read that this bb is unlockable. Does this mean that my iphone is factory unlocked.

I want to upgrade my IOS and undo the jailbreak as i'm giving the phone to my mother.

Can I update my IOs and do not fear the carrier unlock ?

If you have 5.14 baseband and are unlocked then you have a factory unlocked iPhone

Back in January, I sshd, restored to 4.1 using Tiny Umbrella ispw and shift+restore on iTunes. Then I followed redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to have baseband 06.00.15 on my iPhone. I updated Cydia to the latest version then installed ultrasn0w 1.2 through Cydia.

My 3GS is now unlocked, redsn0w jailbroken, 4.1 (8B117), Firmware 06.15.00.

The problem is I have another 3G with FW4.2.1 on it and I want to restore all the data from this to my 3GS.

Is it now safe to jailbreak 3GS on 4.2.1, unlock it (most important) and have it untethered, even if it is already on BB 06.15.00?

I am then hoping I can restore from backup my 3GS 4.2.1 from a 3G 4.2.1 backup - will that work?

You will need 4.2.1 SHSH to start. Then you can make a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool or snowbreeze and restore to that. You can even go to 4.3.2 custom if you want. As long as it is the same firmware or higher then the 3G you can restore from that backup.
