Why update baseband at all?

With the unlock for the latest basebands about to be released, I am wondering what the advantages are up upgrading? Does a newer baseband provide some wort of bug fix, or is it purely to hinder unlocking? Along those lines, I'm still running the baseband that came with 3.1.3 on my 3G. When I update to 4.2, even if the unlock is already available, should I just keep my old baseband? Thanks!

Sometimes updating the baseband can help with battery life or signal but it isnt worth it most of the time. That being said once the unlock comes out for the new baseband I see no reason to preserve a older baseband knowing that the updated one can be unlocked too.

If you're happy with your battery life then I would stick with the baseband you're on, there's no going back if you upgrade.....

The new unlock might cause battery life problems on the newer firmware - who know?
