new to iphone 3g and it wont work

I got a iphone 3g off a friend who was on fido I installed my rogers sim and all i get when i start the phone is the itunes logo and usb cord on the screen. I opened itunes and it says sim card not supported. how do i get this phone to work??

If you are with Rogers, you can go to rogers and they will unlock it for Rogers ( Rogers and Fido are the same company )

so i got it properly restored with itunes but it still isn't unlocked to rogers cause it wont let me make a call and when i go to settings it says version 4.1 (8b117) i've tried to look for firmware for it but I'm not sure i'm finding the right one can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm on windows

Go to settings-general-about and scroll down to your modem firmware. You may want to give Yeow's suggestion a try as that may be your best option at this point.

So you have two options then. Do as Yeow said and try to get Rogers to unlock it for their network for you. Or wait until the new unlock comes out which should be this month sometime, maybe even this week.

tks...am i able to go down to an earlier firmware, it is a 3g

Yes you can go to 3.1.3 if you want but it wont help you unlock as you cant downgrade the baseband.
