Default iphone 3g on 4.1; want no data plan

Hey guys, a while ago I gave my girlfreind my old 2g iphone and JB and used unlockit to disable the data so she could just use it as a normal phone. This worked great for her no for like 1.5 years.
Well my sis gave me her old 3g on 4.0 (now 4.1) and i wanted to hack it the same so my girl could use the phone with no data.

I tried running snowbreeze with hacktivation and then setting up a fake apn with unlockit (even though it says you dont need to on 4.0+)

I tried putting in my sim but the phone wouldnt see it.
Right now im re jailbreaking it and trying again but does anyone have any ideas if this is possible on the 3g?
I know there is a data toggle on the 4.0+ firmware but when thats off it also stops text messaging.

    thanks in advance

Aah ok, understood. I think sbsettings has a data disable button. Not sure if it works or not though.

Ya that was your no service issue. If you are on official carrier you cannot hacktivate or this will happen.

im learning too that no data on the 3g means no MMS period.

the mms uses the data package, i guess the 2g phone didnt and thats why hers works

He is looking for a method to disable data but not MMS. Turning off data in settings disables MMS as well.

sorry guys re reading my question its not even MMS i care about its text service period. I dont care if she can send pics and vid, but when you disable data it shuts off text messaging period.

So does anyone have an idea on how i can set it up to work as a regular non iphone phone like i did with the old 2g.

    thanks

anyone know if i ran ultra snow on it if it would help?

    thanks

My phone is able to text when I turn off data. Does ATT block this somehow?

I guess it is just a ATT thing then. Other carriers allow you to text without having data. Ultrasn0w may allow you to do this but since you are on 4.1 it will not work for you. Once the new unlock comes out you can try using that.

    I'm hactivated but on AT&T. It's a no-contract, BYO phone thing.

I think if you Hactivate on an AT&T phone you have to use Ultrasnow to use your AT&T sim.

do you mean you hactivate then use ultrasnow on top of it or just use ultrasnow to hacktivate?

You run a hactivated firmware and then load ultrasnow.

As I said ultrasn0w isnt going to work for you if you were on 4.1 as that baseband cannot be unlocked yet. you may have to wait for the new unlock to come out before you can try this method.
