Okay i have Iphone 3gs with 3.0 on it, i want to upgrade to 4.0 OS, how can i Jailbreak it when i upgrade and how can i unlock it. Also can it be done with 4.02 or whatever is the newest one.

Please help me out I'm tired of reading so many different things.

If you have a Mac you can use pwnage tool to make a custom 4.1 firmware and restore to that. On windows you can use sn0wbreeze to do the same since at 3.0 your iPhone 3GS is old bootrom. Both of these will preserve your baseband so that you can unlock with ultrasn0w after restoring to the custom 4.1 firmware.

Thanks for the reply x98car, sn0wbreeze is used to jailbreak (if i am not mistaking), since the phone is 3.0 and old bootrom it will stay unlocked to work with any carrier? or do i have to use another program for that ?

You would use sn0wbreeze to make the custom 4.1 firmware. Then after restoring to that you would just need to go into cydia and install ultrasn0w and you will be unlocked again.

This should be my last question i believe i'm getting it, So do i upgrade to 4.1 firmware or does sn0wbreeze do that itself. After running sn0wbreeze and it's finished doing everything I need to get Cydia and install ultrasn0w and it will ready to go.

Sn0wbreeze just makes the 4.1 custom firmware for you (so you need to download the official one manually iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download)
Once it finishes it will put that CFW on your desktop. Then you would open itunes, press shift and click restore. A window will pop up where you can point itunes to that custom firmware.

Are you currently jailbroken on 3.0?
