Purchased off craigslist. "insert valid sim with no unlock"

i purchased an iphone 4 off craigslist. for the price i got it at, i believe it might have been stolen. upon turning the phone on it immediately said insert sim with no unlock to activate iphone. i am an att user and have the regular sim. can i just go in and pick up a new micro sim and activate it over the phone or what, i am kinda sketched if it is stolen. any help would be greatly appreciated

Any AT&T sim card should activate it.
I activate after jailbreak with an old deactivated AT&T sim and it always works.

thanks but it has the mini sim? is cutting the sim easy enough to do? should i just go to att and get a new mini sim

You can cut it if you want to, Google, there are many tutorials on how to do it, or, get a new sim.
I just cut one down with an exacto knife.
