Can this be unlocked?

I bought a used iphone 3gs. It has version 3.1.3 and i checked the bootrom and it is the newer one. can it be done? how? if not ill have to sell it and get an unlocked one. i just want to be able to use it for t-mobile. help please. thanks.

the firmware is 05.12.01

Go to settings>general>about and if it doesnt say 5.14.02 beside modem firmware.. Which id say your not going to have that then your unlockable

If it is still on 3.1.3, it is most likely unlockable. Why not just download ultrasn0w and find out?

Ultrasn0w is in cydia.. You should be able to just search it.. If not youll have to ad repo to your cydia which is repo666.ultrasn0w.com

ok ill followed you by going to cydia. what do you mean ad repo ?

Go to manage at the bottom of cydia.. Then sources the click edit in the upper right corner then hit add then put that url in then hit add source

My mistake.. Yes you have to be jailbroken.. Cydia comes on the phone after you jb

ultrasn0w comes packaged with Cydia, open Cydia after jailbreak, hit search on the bottom, type ultrasn0w, Install and reboot.

ok thanks. i just did jail break with spirit. now what do i do?

cydia also is saying there are 2 essential upgrades and if i dont errors could occur. do i upgrade essential? complete upgrade? ignore?

Yes, Upgrade as User not dev or what ever the other options are, the top option. The phone will re-boot, open Cydia again then search for ultrasn0w.
