Default "#1 rule: don't restore/update to stock IPSW. Use custom IPSW" ?

I saw this on Musclenerd's twitter and I was wondering if you guys could explain to me what that actually means.

I have an iPhone 4 that I bought while he was 4.0.2 and upgraded through TinyUmbrella to 4.1 and preserved my 01.59.00 baseband.

Does he mean that should I ever need a restore I should never do it through the normal IPSW only the one PwnageTool will give me ? I don't understand that.
Could anyone tell me the what would be the consequences if I do restore to a stock IPSW ?
I'm talking of corse after I'll "SHAtter" it.

    Thanks in advance

If u save your shsh for 4.1 you will always be able to restore using TU and retain older BB. Custom IPSW will just be another option for u.

He is just saying that using that tool you can perserve your baseband and also carry over the pwned exploit.

The main point is to perserve the baseband for unlocks.

So in other words if I restore from 4.1 to 4.1 using the stock IPSW I'll upgrade my baseband is that what you're saying ? and that way I'll lose my unlock ?
