3gs on simple mobile totally lost

so i'm getting a 3gs from a friend but resetting it all (iOS 3.x) but wut i want 2 no is i no it's locked up without a sim in it and ill only have a simple mobile sim card and i know it won't work with that, so how do i got about jailbreaking it so i can unlock it without an AT&T sim?

So you say it's on 3.1.x, but it isn't jb?

Is it new or old boot?

Is it on 3.1.2 or 3.1.3? You'll want to jb it first, find out the bootrom, then we can determine if you can jb it without an official carrier's SIM.

Edit: sorry that's out of order. You'll wanna find out the boot version first, then we will determine if you can jb by at least using a custom fw to get past without using a SIM

well i don't have it yet so i guess ill jus have to wait, but if it's old bootrom, a custom IPSW will let me do it all with no AT&T sim?

Problem is, the phone hasn't been jb before right...

No matter how I look at it, you'll probably need the SIM. unless you're on 3.1.2. That's the only way to get it up and running without a SIM.

There are so many factors that we have to consider and if it's not on 3.1.2, I can't get you to jb without a SIM.

See, the custom fw will only work on old boot phones and it can only work if you're already jb. I can get your phone jb no problem if it's still on 3.1.3 too but that requires a SIM. so... The major factor is if you are gonna be on 3.1.2, otherwise you'll need to buy a SIM.
