Okay so i have an iphone 3gs 4.1 firmware with 5.14.02 baseband and 6.4 bootloader now i am aware that this cannot be unlocked ( which is what i rely on ) how long would it be untill an unlock has been released for this baseband? My friend has offered to trade me a 3g for my 3gs and his 3g is completley unlockable. Should i do the trade? Is it worth it ? Or will the new unlock be out soon?
The unlock is currently not being worked on. At least not till the new jb is released, even then it could take from a month the quickest up to 6 months from now.
You decide if you wanna wait another month with a possibility to more months.
My suggestion is to sell your 3GS and buy someone else's unlockable 3GS. I personally wouldn't trade a 3GS for a 3G regardless. I'd sell and buy another 3GS.
A better processor. It's a lot faster than a 3G. It doesn't seem like it matters a huge ton, but you'd be amazed at how much faster it is. That's my personal preference. My old 3G with all the speed tweaks you can think of applying still can't beat a 3GS.
It's entirely up to you tho. It's just my opinion, I'm a speed demon :P
Edit: essentially a 3G phone is a 2G phone with 3G capabilities. They basically hold the same hardware for the most part but are suited with a new body. A 3GS wears the same body but internally, it's not so close at all compared to a 2G or 3G.
