Unlocked iphone can only receive calls

I've unlocked my iphone but the sim wont work. I can receive calls, but can only make emergency calls. My display just says i should connect to itunes. I do this and I get message telling me sim not supported. I cant even see any apps. What can I do to sort this? Is my phone properly unlocked?

1. What is your phone 3G,3GS, Iphone 4 ?
2. What firmwear are you running ?
3. What baseband are you on ?
4. How did you unlock it ?
5 Are you a PC or Mac user ?
6. What did you use to Jailbreak your phone ?

If you provide more info i am sure somebody can help you

It's a 2g 8gb. I took it to a shop and they did it there. I'm a mac user.

Sorry I'm a real novice with technology!! It was on )2 and I'm with T-Mobile
