First time unlocking. Doing my friends 3G and 3GS. Questions..

I'm savvy on jailbreaking as I have done it many of times on my iphones. Never unlocked though.

They are both on tmobile and have a 3G and 3GS. Can you suggest the best firmware to update, what to use to unlock them with, etc?

Any thing you think I might need to know if I have never unlocked before.

Just so you know they are currently already unlocked and on tmobile but they want me to update the firmware and then I guess I need to unlock them again.

3G and 3Gs what firmware is on it ? What jailbreak was applied on it. The serial number of 3Gs, the first 5 digits from the left ?

Do you mean the last 5 digits? Just want to make sure. I am texting him and will follow up when he responds.

I highly doubt he knows what was used to jailbreak and unlock them. I will ask though.
