Unlock my 3g

Hi there. I have a 3g at version 3.1.2 (7D11) modem firmware 05.11.07. I would like to JB and unlock it. What is the safest way and do I need to do anything first. What is shsh? This phone was jailbroken a couple of years ago but hasen't been for some time now.

Go to blackra1n.com and use that to jailbreak or alternatively go to spiritjb.com and use spirit.

Once you've jailbroken, install ultrasn0w through cydia.

You're better off staying at 3.1.2. You probably can't upgrade without going to 4.1 anyway if you don't have your SHSHs.

I would recommend using Redsn0w 0.9.3 to JB tho cuz I've seen less problems with Redsn0w after JB compared to Blackra1n. If you do have an official carrier's SIM use jailbreakme as that's the easiest JB tool yet.

Edit: reason why you don't want 4.1 is cuz you can't JB it properly and you will not be able to unlock.

Once you jb 3.1.2 you can unlock with ultrasn0w in Cydia.

Yes if you have official carrier's SIM, jailbreakme is fine.

What about security of the phone after it is unlocked? I have a banking app on it now. Is there a security app available?

You can search for security applications but Jailbreaking isn't going to open up your iPhone to any random person.
Like everyone else said, it's better to stay at 3.1.2 or you can upgrade it to 3.1.3.
I prefer RedSn0w and using UltraSn0w to unlock.

Ok, so I finally wanted to jb and went to jailbreakme.com and it said to slide bar. The bar would not slide at all. What could be wrong?

On jailbreakme.com u probably don't have JavaScript on. Turn it on in Settings>Safari

Don't use SSH unless you know what your doing as it is a security risk. Go into cydia and get ultrasn0w and your done there is an unlocked iphone
