How do you tell if an iphone 4 is officially unlocked or jailbreak/unlocked?

I'm tempted to get an iphone 4 from a non-apple dealer in a country that sells official unlocked iphone 4.

how do you tell if its an official unlock or a jailbroken&unlocked version though?

after all these years with my 2G phone, i'm tired of unlocking after every update.

factory unlocked phones aren't jb when new. you can also check for ultrasn0w to see if it's ultrasn0w that is unlocking it instead of being factory unlocked. IIRC there is a way to check with the serial number, but I'm not sure how to, maybe someone else here can hit on that.

so, if the iphone 4 is on 4.0.2 and there is no ultrasnow or cydia icons, then it is factory unlocked?

if it is working with an unofficial carrier, yes. do a spotlight search for cydia first in case someone just hid the icon.
