If you have your SHSHs saved, you can downgrade to 4.0 or 4.0.1 (if you have those saves) and jailbreak with jailbreakme and unlock with ultrasn0w in Cydia.
If you dont have your SHSHs saved, you cant jailbreak on 4.0.2 so you cant unlock.
If you have the old bootrom, you can restore to a custom firmware of 4.0 or 4.0.1 and then unlock with ultrasn0w.

what are the SHSHs???
are their default ones we can download and then use??
or are they like a computers hardware id and apple binds them in with the SHSHs so they are individual??

Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)
You cant download them. They are unique to each device. If you didnt save them before 08/19, you cant save them now. The only one you can save is 4.0.2 which is not useful at this time. You should still save them for now for future use.

good idea, thanx for the clue.
um, i think i found something intresting,,,,
i installed tineyumbrilla. and got my shsh's
then i notcied a drop down menu and selected 4.0.1 shsh's then hit build.
it builed them, and i know i was on 4.0.2.
started the tineyumbrellas server thing.
then went into itunes and used **** key and selected the 4.0.1 upgrade.. and it upgraded... or well downgraded. but i dont know how to tell if it worked... let alone how to jailbreak, cuz im stuck on activate screen.
aw but it still has the new 4.0.2 baseband of 5.13.04. dam.

Now comes the exciting part, you need the official sim card to activate.

is their not a program on the web that will activate this thing for me. or allow me to buy pass it.??

Great. So you did have your 4.0.1 SHSHs
You'll need a phonebook SIM or official carrier's SIM to activate. No other way past this part. Then you can jailbreak.

So I just bought the phone so I have no backup firmwares. Can I downgrade? Any tips? What about the sites that say you have to "buy" the jailbreak? It says it can work on any iPhone and I am desperate...

If you read thru my posts, youll have your answer in detail. Simply put, you cant do anything if youre on 4.0.2. If youre on 4.0.1 you can jailbreak.
If youre on 4.0.2 and have not SHSHs, you cant do anything.
If you have the old bootrom you can restore to custom firmwares.
Just depends on your phone's bootrom now.

I had saved my Shsh's in Cydia but it was a different iPhone and this is the replacement
08-27-2010, 12:11 PM #12
It has to be on the device you have. SHSHs are unique to each device.

i just checked and i did save my shsh's from 4.0 firmware i have all the firmwares backed up!
i got a firend getting me a sim and if does not work i don't know. whats the diffrence between an official iphone sim and a normal one?? so fair i cant find it. phone is relocked to the provided since the firmware test make it do that.
like is it only that original sim that came with the phone? or just any sim from that provider? or a spefic iphone sim from that provider "if that makes any sense" im in a mind set iphones have "special" sims.

It has to be the official carrier's SIM. for instance if it is a US phone, it is locked to AT&T so you have to use an AT&T SIM to activate. Some say a phonebook SIM would work too.

i think in 4.0.2 phonebook sim no longer works.... or maybe it is new bootrom it no longer works... have seen it online work on 4.0.1, but a lot of ppl say it gives wrong simcard error now....hate apple just let me do what i want with the tech i bought... fak.. i think all phones should be sold unlocked if their services are relay that great then their would be no need to switch. and like 90% of ppl sign contracts so doesn't matter if u loose it or not they still get money. lets put it to a vote! lol
