help unlocking my iphone 3gs!

Recently I just bought the iphone 3gs 32 gb and it's on 4.0.2 firmware. I was wondering if it was safe to unlock through 4.0.2 or if I should downgrade to unlock it. My goal is to unlock and jailbreak it for t-mobile. Any suggestions??

You cannot unlock at 4.0.2. You need 4.0.1 shsh blogs to downgrade, if you iphone has never been jailbroken before, then you can't do anything at this moment.

Did you buy it new?

If you got it 2nd hand download tiny umbrella to see if there are SHSH files saved.

As of 3:00 pm today, Apple is still signing 4.0.1, you might want to give it a try.
