Default I jailbroke, but have I unlocked?

So this is a real noob question, but I'm actually quite confused. I've got an old 2G iPhone that I jailbroke using redsn0w. Since I'm planning on traveling abroad and using a different SIM card, I need to apparently unlock the phone as well. The thing is, all the instructions I've found seem to treat the process for jailbreaking and unlocking as the same, although I don't think (?) they are.

So is my phone automatically unlocked as well, or is there an additional step(s) I need to do? Thanks so much!

Check our guides section on how to unlock.

    OSX: iPhone 2G – OS X

    Windows: iPhone 2G – Windows

    What version are you on?

No, they're not the same. The only thing in common is u need to be jailbroken to unlock the phone.

I used the 3.1.2 firmware version, per the instructions. I did just as the instructions said, but just wanted to confirm that that also unlocks the phone as well. Perhaps it does both, but I'm so used to hearing that they're two different processes that I'm a little suspicious that it did both tasks at once.

    Thanks again!

Did you check the unlock option when making the custom firmware?

Ha. Yes, yes I did (the unlock box during the redsn0w process). I forgot about that... so it's done. Sweet, thanks!

If you want to test it just see if one of your friends has T-Mobile and pop in their sim to see if it gets bars.

I am kind of having same question. I jail broke iPhone 3G version 4.0.1. I don't know if it is unlocked, think not. I went to Florida and put ATT sim card, nothing, no service.
What I have to do now? This is Rogers phone.

If you used a different sim and it got no bars and/or said invalid sim then it is not unlocked.

You can install ultrasn0w to unlock it.
