Just got an 3GS and i have a few questions

Ok, so reading through some posts, I understand that in order to unlock, I need to jailbreak first.

First of all, is there a specific OS version the phone needs to be in? If so, where can I download it? (phone has most recent OS version)

Now, unlocking seems pretty simple after you get cydia, so if you guys can assist me with that first, i'd really appreciate it.

Jailbreakme.com as long as you are not on 4.0.2 and running one of the supported versions of iOS:

- iPhone 3G[S] on 3.1.2
- iPhone 3G[S] on 3.1.3
- iPhone 3G[S] on 4.0
- iPhone 3G[S] on 4.0.1

I don't have the phone yet (being shipped) but i'm almost sure it's in 4.0.2. How can I restore it to 4.0.1?

Unfortunately, I am not sure if you can. The dev team warned against using 4.0.2. I believe you will not be able to jailbreak this phone for a while. Unless the previous owner was smart enough to backup their SHSH - but this might be unlikely unless they had jailbroken or used the "umbrella app".

Good news guys, I just got the phone on the mail, and it come with 4.0.1 OS!! Phew... =]
