How can I tell if my 3G is unlocked?

I have a 3G jailbroken and running 4.0.1. I'm gonna list it in Craigslist as "jailbroken and unlocked" but I want to know for sure that it is indeed unlocked.

Obviously I could simply pop in a T-Mobile sim card and see, but I don't know anyone anyone who uses T-mobile. They're all AT&T and Verizon!

Before I list it as "unlocked" on craigslist, I was just wondering if there is a way to verify that it is unlocked. I went through all the steps outlined on redmonpie.com, but there wasn't a confirmation.

could I pop in a Verizon card and see? I know the phone won't be functional, but would it at least display "Verizon" at the top where "AT&T" should be?

Verizon doesnt use SIM cards.

Go to Cydia and see if "Ultrasn0w" is installed. If it is, it is unlocked. If you uninstall it, it will no longer be unlocked. If you restore the phone, you will lose both the jailbreak and unlock and have to redo it.

All the tutorials I found online on how to unlock said that I had to add "http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com" to my Cydia sources, but when I opened my sources I found it was already there. Do the more recent jailbreaks automatically unlock your phone as well?

The repo is supposed to already be there. You still have to install Ultrasn0w yourself, it isn't automatically unlocked upon jailbreak.
