iTunes wont activate or recognise my sim

hi guys/gals
just received my brand new iphone 3gs from apple on thursday to replace my faultyother iphone and i jailbroke it and every was running fine till last night when a message appeared on my screen after i was charging it saying'iphone needs to be restored, cant make or recieve calls' something like that. so i restored it to 4.0.1 this morning and now after it restores itunes comes up with this error "there is no sim card installed in the iphone you are trying to activate" and ive tryed 5 sim cards different carriers and restored it about 6 or 7 times now and still nothing, so i am now phoneless again. help would be much appreciated thanks

Are you using an AT&T sim or Phonebook sim?

im from australia and im using a Telstra 3G sim i also tryed the normal telstra sim and an Optus sim but still nothing
