Need simple answer to a simple question
I just purchased an Iphone 3GS on OS 4.0 5.13.04. I don't have backed up SHSH. Can I jailbreak and unlock this phone at this time? If yes, please point me in direction of how to do that. If NO, is there a hope for the nearest future? I am sorry if this question was asked somewhere else and I apreciate someone's prompt response.

I guess while I am waiting for a jailbreak, it would be a good idea to backup SHSH? I don't exactly understand what that SHSH stands for, but I think it has something to do with a firmware version. Kind of like a MAC address on each network device. Each device has a unic MAC address, kind of like each Iphone has a unic SHSH? Would this be an acurate comparison? Where can I find, easy to follow steps, on how to back this up?

I dont think its possible to back up your SHSH files without a jailbreak on your phone. Cydia backs up the SHSH blobs. TinyUmbrella does so as well on the computer, but one of the requirements is to have a jailbroken phone.
Edit: I made a mistake. I think you can save them with TinyUmbrella.

What the heck is “ECID SHSH”? | iPhone in Canada Blog - Canada's #1 iPhone Resource
Link to explain ECID SHSH. Follow the links I gave you in my previous post if you need to utilize the SHSH blobs.
