Question Best firmware version for iPhone 2G?

I know the 2G update to the latest firmware is slow and not as responsive to earlier firmware revisions due to the hardware. So as I'm learning to mod my phone I have been noticing all the firmware versions floating about on the web. So now I have wondered is there an earlier firmware revision that is better to use than updating to the latest or as in the 2G case the last firmware upgrade to mod with? . . . maybe put it back as being snappy like it used to be.

Actually, when I had my 2g (and I set my sisters up like this and she still uses it) I like 3.0 on it the best... Ive found Bo big features in anything greater than that for the 2g, and I like how the 2g ran on 3.0... Just what I think but it really doesn't matter

I second the vote for 3.0- quick, good battery life. Get it.

2g phones are no hassle at all. Restore to 3.0, run blackra1n. End of story. You do need the two bootloader files, though, which are tiny and available from this very site.

On a 2g, I had 2.2.1 and it was slow as molasses, then upgraded to 3.0 which was a tad quicker but without install0us I was forced to go with 3.1.2.

3.1.2 is amazingly fast on the 2g iPhone, it boots quicker, battery life is great, wifi works, the only negative is that after unlocking with redsnow, the network lock on t-mobile takes, sometimes, a tad longer than usual and you see the No Service message for 1-2 seconds but otherwise, go for it, it's much, much better than 2x or 1x firmwares.
