Unlocking iPhone 3GS with iOS 4
Hello everyone,
All this mess is completely my fault, but I hope somebody can help me out!
1) Somewhat as an impulse purchase, I bought an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.0 installed from eBay.
2) It's not activated - when I turn it on, I see the iTunes logo.
3) No idea if it was jailbroken & unlocked before
4) I just need to unlock this in order to use it in Turkey.
Any ideas on where I should start? Can I even do this? Or is it not possible?
Thanks in advance...

First thing you need to do is activate it. You'll need an AT&T simcard for just 5 minutes to activate it. If you know someone with AT&T you can borrow theirs.
I'm assuming the previous owner never jailbroke or unlocked it but use tinyumbrella to see if you have your shsh blobs stored
The Firmware Umbrella: TinyUmbrella - Unified TinyTSS and The Firmware Umbrella in ONE!
If you do you are in luck. and you can follow the guide.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS to 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze | Windows
If not you are SOL and gotta wait til a new 4.0 jailbreak/unlock comes outHave they released the jailbreak in the app store yet?

Thank you ianbroste. This was helpful.
So bad news (for me). No SHSH blobs. The iPhone experts that you are, maybe you can answer this: Is it logical to wait for an "unlock" solution for my case? Is it likely to come out? Or is there any reason why it will not be released any time soon?
Again, thanks much.
