Rumcajs is right, please do some research first before asking a question.

Q1 : You haven't even jailbreak at 3.1.3 and you are asking jailbreak at 4.0. You should worry more about jailbreaking at 3.1.3 first before going to 4.0. The answer about hactivation is at 3.1.3 and 4.0 is NO.
Q2 : Iphone 4, whether Black or White, makes no difference in Hardware, they are the same. No jailbreak and No hactivation at the moment.

a 3gs running 3.1.3 must be jailbroken FIRST... but if you mess up you will be stuck at OS4.

watch some U-tube videos thats what i did. And read posts... in a matter of 3 days i think i became an expert.

that is why i am asking about 4.0, i have read all kind of things but cannot get a strait answer, i am on 3.1.3 05.12.01 jailbroken & unlocked.

can i upgrade to 4.0 and jailbreak and unlock, i purchased my 3gs with 3.1.3 stock, have not had 3.1.2 i keep reading that i need to have 3.1.2 to jailbreak 4.0

can someone please clarify,

No... you cannot unlock/jailbreak with 4.0 using spirit. Check out the the downloads page. it will tell you what you can/cannot unlock with the 3GS.

Latest os is 4.0.1 so you can't go to 4.0 anyway.

Actually he can if he used shsh and saved the old firmware. He then could go to Itunes (shift + restore) and bring back 4.0. But it doesn't matter what you do at this point, you can't do what your asking. Sorry man.

Do you have SHSH files saved for 4.0?

I have done the upgrade and personally do not find it any slower and the new features make it worthwhile.

If you've not got sHSH for 4.0 then you are going to have to wait a few days for the tools to be released to upgrade to 4.0.1

Take a look at spirit2pwn. It's unofficial but may help and is supposed to work
