Default iPhone 3GS 3.1.2/5.11.07 - What to do

So i've searched, and have come to many confusing ends. My question is, is this set up unlockable? If so what steps do I take, sorry if it's a noob question, but sites like modmyi make it somewhat difficult to find exact answers, and I like to ask the experts. Thanks guys.

That doesn't necessarily explain an unlock on 3.1.2, if it's there and I'm missing it please redirect me, I hate clogging up forums but this is a subject that potentially ruins many $600 phones, so I feel it's worth it to ask... Thanks

Do I just "make it ra1n" on the normal 3.1.2 firmware, or is there a custom I have to restore to? If I do, I'm out of luck as far as I know since Apple no longer signs that firmware.

New, is that an issue? I thought if I was as far back as 3.1.2 then bootroms don't matter, correct me if I'm mistaken please. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm not sure if Geohots latest release was untethered or not. Maybe you are right! Try it and see!

If you sn0wbreeze to iOS4.0 then I'm sure that will be a tethered jailbreak, so stick with 3.1.2 for now if that works.

Everything ran smoothly, thanks for the responses, and I love how it only took a few. You guys rock and should be proud. I'll be back when the 4.0 unlock is released .

You should check wifi and youtube are working ok, also push notifications.

I installed pushfix and it sorted youtube too, wifi was always a bit hit and miss, if it stops connecting you may need to reset network settings, but maybe the latest release has fixed all these things too.

BTW, unlock for 4.0 is already out. I'm unlocked on 4.0 myself, but I don't think there's an untethered jailbreak for new bootrom yet, so hang slack for now.

    Enjoy!

Yeah I think it's the new bootrom problem that's preventing me, at least from what I remember. Wifi seems ok, YouTube as well, Push though I'll need to download wordswithfriends or something to test I suppose, or send myself an email, I'll report back.

Pushfix includes a pushtest app, but I think you have to buy pushfix anyway!
