Unlock OS4???

OK so after waiting 4 months to be able to unlock my iphone i took it to the store and they updated it to os 4...
its currently jailbroken (dont know how but it came back that way) but they said I have to wait for someone to release the unlock for it...im confused because i keep reading different things. Can someone please clarify for me.
Also I have my shsh blob saved for 3.1.3 but i read too that i cant downgrade???

Yes, you can unlock it. Just launch Cydia since you said it's still jailbroken and install Ultrasn0w. You'll be good to go.

i was just thinking and maybe its not jailbroken but thats what i was told by the store...but before i would get the emergency only screen and when i got the phone back i get the home screen but it says no sim

You could try to do a custom firmware for iOS4.0 if you're already jailbroken it might work. That will get you Cydia and you can ultrasn0w from there.

Sounds like "the store" has messed it up for you.

I have my shsh saved for 3.1.3 is it easier just to downgrade and then jailbreak/unlock on that OS?

Have you tried just doing a custom firmware restore on 4.0? Maybe the store really did jailbreak it?

If that doesn't work I'm not sure if there's an easier way, but I think you could try to custom restore to 3.1.3 to jailbreak/hactivate then go back to 4.0 if needed.

If that won't work it seems you're not jailbroken and you could restore to 3.1.3 and jailbreak with spirit before doing custom firmware to 4.0.

Like I said, I'm not sure if there's an easier way or if you'll have hactivation problems?

You sure can. I am unlocked on 4.0. Use Ultrasn0w. I believe it works on any baseband.

If you are jailbroken you should have Cydia. If you don't have Cydia then chances are you're not jailbroken - hence the confusion above.

What's the first 5 numbers of your serial number? and what's your baseband?

You should be able to downgrade to 3.1.3, jailbreak with spirit and run Ultrasn0w to unlock, but I'm not actually sure if Ultrasn0w works with spirit.... best to try instructions in the link in my previous post.

Looks like you have the new bootrom from your serial number, baseband is the modem firmware on the same settings page.

I'm afraid it looks increasingly like you are out of luck for the time being. I would just try a custom firmware to restore 4.0, if it really is jailbroken it may work. But I think not. Phone up the store you took it to and give them some abuse.

Yeah trust me I did. I have one last question...would you suggest i try downgrading back to 3.1.3? Its not really important to have 4.0 for the time being but I just want to use the phone. Its been sitting on my desk for 4 months

For those of you with iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC model) and iPod touch 3G who upgraded to iOS 4, only to find out that you cant jailbreak it back can actually downgrade back to iOS 3.1.3 and then jailbreak it using Spirit. Unlocking can be done on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 0.93, instructions for which is posted here.

Downgrade to 3.13 - you will then need a SIM from the provider your phone is locked too in order to activate. Once activated you can JB with Spirit which will install cydia so you can unlock with UltraSn0w.

Spirit does not work with 9.2 you will need to downgrade to 9.1 after.
