i r n00b: 3GS, v3.1.3(7E18), 05.12.01, spirit, unlock? iOS4?

ok so i DO NOT have any SHSH blobs saved, i updated to 3.1.3 via iTunes and jailbroke my phone via SpiritJB

just want to know if i can unlock this bad boy, or better yet, upgrade to iOS4

i'm good at following directions so if it involves complex downgrading/upgrading, i'm more than willing to do so

I think you're out of luck for now. Just hang on and maybe delete some of the sensitive info from your pics.

Unlock it with ultrasnow from cydia

Yes, install ultrasnow using Cydia and then you can unlock your iPhone. It worked for me. This will work for 3.1.3, but there's nothing for iOS4 for us. BTW install ultrasn0w 0.9.3.

What should I do to protect myself from messing up? Is there a way to store a SHSH now? Or can I get one should I accidentally update the phone through itunes?

It would be nice if there was an idiot guide to unlocking the iphone!

Are you updated and happy with the jailbreak/unlock or do you have a problem? Have you got the details in for your cellular data settings in the phone or just no data in your plan?

To protect yourself for the future you obviously must not restore or upgrade your phone to newer firmware unless you can be sure you can jailbreak and unlock it again.

You should also download tinyumbrella and save your SHSH files to allow you to downgrade your firmware if needed later. You will only be able to saver the 4.1 SHSH file, but that's no problem since it's jailbreakable there anyway.

If you do any uprade to the firmware, make sure it's snowbreeze/pwnagetool.

I am in a similar situation too. I have an 3GS 16 GB, new bootroom, 3.1.2 fw, unlocked and jb (tethered) with blackra1n. I want a untethered jb for 3.1.2. I have SHSH blobs for 3.1.2. (also for. 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1) saved on Cydia. I'm working on Windows platform.

So, as far as I understood, I have to restore FW 3.1.2 (custom/activated FW, because activating with phonebook sim is no longer available, ok?) and use Spirit for JB and redsnow for unlock. I will use TinyUmbrella (with SHSH saved from Cydia)and iTunes to restore, I read this topic.

My questions are:
1. What is the risc of using custom 3.1.2. firmware?(I read something about loose signal and/or wireless problems sometimes, or other problems). Can be one custom firmware better than another? Is it a better choise to do myself an custom/activated firmware?

2. Restoring this custom firmware (using TinyUmbrella and iTunes),will I preserve my baseband?
