    Default Unlocking Problem???

Ok. My friend has an Iphone 3g 8gig. Anyway, she wanted me to unlock it for Tmobile. I have the same phone, but a 16gig. I know exactly how to do it. I did it with mine and it works fine. I restored it using 4.0 OS. Then I used Ultrasnow to unlock. I was able to add the APN info and all that. My problem is it keeps going in and out of service. I thought it was her SIM so I tried it with mine, but it does the same thing. Mine phone works perfectly, but hers will not stop losing service. Is it the something that was installed previously? Or is it just the phone? I'm stuck right now and I really need to figure out whats wrong with this dang phone. Lol. Please help!!

Have you tried to do a fresh restore to 4.0 , jailbreak and unlock again.

What do you mean as in fresh? I used completely brand new files each time I did it.

I mean restore to stock 4.0 again and do your jailbreak.

Before you do anything, can you uninstall Ultrasn0w then reboot.
Now reinstall Ultrasn0w to see if it still doing the service problem.

I've tried that already. I thought restoring it would wipe out the added files??

It could be a hardware issue then.

Thats what I'm worried about. This phone was slammed on the floor. I paid to get it repaired, but I guess something is still messed up. GRRRRR.

It seems that there are quite a lot of people out there with this same issue. I'll copy and paste my posts that I posted in another forum.

    A post:

I'm struggling with the same issue on my wife's phone (ios4) that seems to plague a lot of people. I already did everything suggested online... reboot, reinstall ultrasn0w, restore, re-jailbreak, airplane mode... anything you can think of, because I spent from 7:30 last night to 3 this morning trying. FYI, I used pwnage 4.01 to jailbreak.

Not all was lost... I did found something interesting. I was getting frustrated to the point that I'll try anything. So, I borrowed my mother's Cingular sim card that she has for the 2nd line under her ATT account. I slapped it in... nothing, the same one bar and then no service. However, when I turned on 3G (she doesn't have data plan on that line), it became full bars and no lost of signals, no calls dropped and the phone part is running like a champ.

Now, I'm no good when it comes to programming or talking the right lingo when it comes to iphone, but I think this might help us figure out why we are getting no service when we run ultrasn0w and slap a Tmobile sim in there.

For those that are curious, yes I still had to install ultrasn0w in order for the Cingular sim to work with 3G on. And I kept the same setting and swapped it with my or my wife's Tmobile sim... still only 1 bar or dropped to no service.

Interesting enough that I just did the same jailbreak and ultrasn0w to my 3G 16GB white iphone and mine has no signal issue. My wife's phone is also a 3G 16GB white is now having all these ultrasn0w/no signal issues.

I hope that this info might help someone trying to solve this issue.

    Another post:
I even went as far as paying one of the local unlock experts to prove that I'm not insane. So he used redsno0w and result is the same. What works is if I put an ATT sim in it and turn on 3G, it's full bar. Turn 3G off and it's no service again. He's suggesting it might be a hardware issue.

    FYI, firmware is 5.13.04

Here's what I'm suspecting... due to the weak signal and as you can see I was able to connect a call, it's not a hardware issue, but seems to me that either iOS4 or ultrasn0w didsomething funny to certain particular iphones, causing the cellular part of the phone has tremendously low reception. And why putting an ATT (Cingular) sim and turning on 3G works? Maybe the cellular part of the phone tap into the 3G network to power the phone signal?? I hope I'm making sense, because I'm seeing threads after threads on the internet regarding this low signal/no service issue.

To prove that I'm not crazy, here are pics I took...

ATT (Cingular) Sim, 3G turned on.

ATT (Cingular) Sim, 3G turned off.

    Tmobile Sim, initial searching.

    Tmobile Sim, 3G turned off.

Tmobile Sim, 3G turned off, call connected

Tmobile Sim, 3G turned off, signal lost, no service

Thank you , that is very interesting. so you are saying that if you want to get signal you have to play with the 3G ON/OFF switch.

With the ATT (Cingular) sim, yes. 3G on, full bars. 3G off, 1 bar or no service.

With the Tmobile sim, it has no effect.

I'm going to attempt to isolate programs to see what caused it. So I'm going to redsn0w to jailbreak again, but this time I'm not going to unlock it and just put the Cingular sim in there to see if I get full bars. If that's the case, safe to say that it might be an ultrasn0w issue?

If anyone thinks that wouldn't isolate the problem or have other suggestions, ideas. I'm all ears.

I found a solution...sort of. I bought another 3G off Craiglist that was already unlocked and jailbreak. I made sure it wasn't me so I jailbreak it again using pwnage and unlocked it using ultrasn0w, it works fine and wife is very happy now.

I looked at some old threads from different forums, there were people having the same issue with 3.x firmware. One thing in common is all those threads just ended with no one having a solution.

I did this as well and it worked for a few days then it started messing up again. This also happens with the 4.0 OS!! :-(
I used Blackra1n and Blacksn0w for my friends 3.1.2. It messed up. I updated completely and used Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w for 4.0. It started doing the same thing.

I am also having this issue. I have an iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 and I just jailbroke using Spirit and then unlocked using ultrasn0w 0.93

This is my first time doing this and I thought it was just me but I went to T-mobile and got a new SIM and it worked fine for about a day or two and then I lost service at work and then haven't gotten it back since...Its been almost a week since that happened. I went to the T-mobile store and when I went in another person was having a similar problem...The guy took out my SIM and replaced it twice and even took out the SIM to his iphone 3g (which had full bars) and then put it in mine and still nothing. In the end he didn't know what to do and I left. I started to mess around with the network data settings and it helped a little..now every once in a while I will get 3 or 4 bars, but that never lasts long. Also, people are telling me that they are calling and texting me and I am not getting them - not even a missed call (whether I have service or not)...But I can make and receive calls as well as text.

I bought my phone October 09. It was having software issues so right before I jailbroke it I traded it in for a new one under warranty. So I didnt think that it was a problem with the phone itself just with the settings or the programs or something. If anyone has any insight, please help! Thx.

Also, I was wondering what the best jailbreak was..should I have done it with something else? Thx.

This is what my network settings look like now:
    Cellular Data:
    APN: epc.tmobile.com
    User: BLANK
    Pass: BLANK

    MMS:
    APN:epc.tmobile.com
    MMSC:mms.msg.eng.tmobile.com/mms/wapenc

    Internet:
    APN:internet2.voicestream.com
