New iphone 3GS need to unlock and jail break

Hi guys..
I have an nonactivated iphone 3GS 3.1.3 5.12.01 6.04
i have a offcial carrier prepaid sim which i bought separately from Fido to activate my iphone.
This is my first time to use iphone...
so i need DO and DONTS from u guys...i have read in this forum about ultra snow and black rainrc2 issue and some restoring problems...i want to do it simple and easy..if its avaliable

As far as i know
1)I use my carrier sim to activate my iphone with itunes 9,1 not 9,2..
2)use spiritjb.com to jailbreak my phone and install cydia and then
3)go to cydia type repo666.ultrasn0w.com and install ultra snow
4)reboot iphone....

IS this enough to work ...and i shud i upgrade to OS4.0 in the mean time or not...

I just JB'ed & Unlocked my 3GS by that way.So, it works 100%.I will not upgrade to 4.0 just yet.

Make sure on cydia you press the make my life easier button so that if you ever need to get back to 3.1.3 you'll be good.

Try looking for TinyUmbrella so you can backup your 3.1.3 SHSH files on your computer as well just in case cydia goes BOOM
